Bissell Perfect Sweep Turbo – Review and GIVEAWAY

Did you make it to the LEGO® KidFest when it was in town? We did and it was so much fun if not a bit overwhelming. As part of the event, we were asked by Bissell if I’d like to try out the Bissell Perfect Sweep Turbo. Duh, of course! But then I started to think….. Did I really need another gadget? Would it just end up like others and end up sitting around and not being used. I’m going to be really honest. I considered just taking it and then selling it.

Then it was delivered and my son, who is seven, and lover all things that come from a delivery person (as does his Mom, if truth be told) tore into it. And he fell in love. Stars burst in the heavens, music played and a cleaning machine was born. On our first floor, we have carpet on half of it. I wasn’t sure how this would work but that’s where all of our super crazy small lego pieces are hiding. Well, the ones my vacuum didn’t scoop up and carry away to LEGO heaven, that is.

I was so surprised. This little baby worked on the shag carpet perfectly! It picked up all of the pieces hiding in my brown flecked carpet and it was really easy to take off the receptacle where everything is swept up and retrieve what we wanted to keep. Genius, I tell you!

Since this sweeper arrived in our house, our floors have not been cleaner – someone me, one of my two kids and even my husband, run this around some room every single day. It helps that I told my son he gets to keep any coins he happens to sweep up in the process.

Here’s the nuts and bolts of this little gem:

Powerful, battery-powered sweeper brush with up to 60 minutes of cordless cleaning time

  • Edge brushes for cleaning along baseboards and in corners
  • Up to 60 minutes of cordless cleaning time
  • 7.2 volts of power
  • Easy-to-remove, top loading dirt container
  • Safe on carpet, rugs and hard floors
  • Perfect for in-between cleanings

Disney on Ice Recap

No show is complete without a recap on what you loved best.  Well, Friday night, me and the family headed downtown to see Disney on Ice, Micky & Minnie’s Magical Adventure. This was our first ever Disney on Ice visit and we had skate side seats.

We all had a great time – even my six year old son. He was a little skeptical about going, but after we got the boy some cotton candy, he was as happy as lark and even pointed out the characters he really liked.  The show was divided into segments: The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Lilo & Stitch and Peter Pan. His favorite sections were from The Lion King and The Little Mermaid – he loved the costumes of the animals.

My nine year old daughter just delighted in everything. She just took it all in with a huge grin on her face. She insisted on bringing her camera, and as I forgot mine, she’s my official blog photographer this go around. If she wasn’t taking photos (she took over 50!), she was clapping her hands with glee and pointing out all of the wonderful things taking place.

For me, my favorite was when Tinkerbell burst onto the stage and sprinkled pixie dust everywhere. So. super.cool.

The costumes were amazing and gorgeous and the overall production was clean and well rehearsed. Everyone in the audience seemed to really enjoy the show. I know we did.

Thanks, Feld for tickets to a great show!

A Perfect Summer Purchase

I have two absolutely favorite things that I’m using to help make this a fantastic summer for my kids.  I’ll share the first one today and the second one later this week.

Last Summer I bought an aboveground pool for the kids.  It cost me $25 from Walmart. Before you get too excited about that, let me give you the low down.  It was a 10′ x 5′ blow up pool.  We had to empty it pretty much after every use as it got gross quickly.  By August the bottom chamber of three rows of air was busted.  But we soldiered on and used it until it was too cold out.  This pool went into the garbage.

This Summer I wanted something bigger and better and I found it.  I had to increase my budget by quite a bit, but I think my solution is still reasonable.  I bought an Intex 12′ x 30″ pool. In addition to the pool, I purchased a pool ladder, a cover, a huge ground cloth, an outdoor heavy duty electric cord, cleaning tools and chemicals.  All told I spent just shy of $300 for our pool and I would do it again in a heart beat.

I had family and friends who supported the idea of a back yard pool and I had others who told me I had no idea what a pain in my rear side I was taking on.  Well, I’m more than two months into having a pool to maintain and for me, it’s not been so bad.  I check the water ever night and add the correct chemicals as directed.  I vacuum the pool maybe once a week (it takes 20 minutes top) and we skim the pool as needed.  That’s it.

At the start of summer, I headed to a trusted local pool supply company and spent 30 minutes talking to the staff and shopping for supplies.  They told me everything I needed to know about pool maintenance in a quick crash course. The supplies may or may not have cost me more than shopping at a discount store, but what I got in information was well worth my time, effort and perhaps money.

And what have I gotten in return?  I got to give my kids a super special treat this Summer.  Hours and hours and hours of dunking, diving, splashing and staying cool during a particularly hot spell. They love this pool so much that most nights when we could go to our huge community pool, my kids choose to play in their own backyard.  We have their friends over, they swim, eat ice cream, chase fireflies and soak up the memories.

The pool should last for more than one summer, but if it doesn’t, quite honestly, I don’t care – I’ll just buy another.  I did make sure I got a more expensive ladder, the best outdoors electrical cable and pool cleaning items so we’d be able to use them for years to come.

If your’re feeling jealous, get out there and get your own pool. Right now is the perfect time to take the plunge. There’s at least one more month left of Summer and as this is your own pool, you won’t have to close it on Labor Day. Right now, sales on pools and pool supplies is rampant.  I saw my exact pool that I got on sale for $99.99 in May now going for $74.99.  Most places like Kmart and Target now have all of their summer swim things on sale for 50% off – you could easily get everything I got for  close to half of what I paid.

I’m so glad I talked myself into taking the plunge.  It’s been worth beyond a doubt.

Please, please, please remember basic pool safety if you purchase a pool – when not in use, take the ladder out the pool. Remove toys from the pool when you’re not using it. Never swim alone and never let your children swim without an adult present.  Your pool should be in a fenced in backyard. And be sure to wear sun screen.

The Purse Perfector

My purse is one scary place to go digging for something.  My husband won’t go near it unless it’s a dire emergency and then he complains the entire time he’s in there.  It’s always been a mess, I couldn’t tell you what’s in there and I couldn’t tell you where to find something in it.  Well, that is, until now.

I was super pleased to get to use and review the Purse Perfector.  This is available for purchase on-line only and all I can say about owning one is wow and YIPPEE! I took some photos of my purse and it’s contents before and after.  Who knew I had three pens and loads of candy in my purse?  I didn’t.  I’m addicted to lip balm and now I have this perfect little compartment where my balm sits waiting for me. Same goes for sun glasses, keys, checkbooks, store reward cards, those errant pens, a constant stream of paper and of course the candy.

I kept my Purse Pefector zipped up so that I could utilize the large middle pocket created. If you unzip it, you can move it around and position it in various ways depending on the size of your purse.  By keeping all of your essential items in your Purse Perfector, you can easily switch purses. And if you’re like me, I don’t like to take my entire purse to the gym. Now I can grab my Purse Perfector, unzip the side that has the things I might need at the gym, toss that into my gym bag and know I’ll have what I need. Super cool is what I’m thinking!

I thought I should humble myself and show you some before and afters……

This is what the inside of my purse used to look like:

And here’s the scary mess of the innards of my purse once I dumped it out:

Here’s my stuff all nice and organized:

And here’s how it looks inside my purse now:

Lyn Marsteller is the woman behind the Purse Perfector – she designed and created this organizer.  I love her business philosophy:  ”work with other small businesses, be as green as possible and provide the best, most adaptable purse organizer available, and made in the USA. Each Purse Perfector order is hand-packed and shipped by a local nonprofit, Easter Seals Work Resource Center, an organization dedicated to training the developmentally disabled in meaningful work for a variety of businesses.”

I’ve had this in my purse for about four days now and it’s absolutely perfect (no pun intended).  Like most women, I used to clean out my purse out of necessity a few times a year.  Within a day or two (or an hour or two), my purse would look like a disaster once again. And so the cycle would go on and on. Or so I thought.  Since I put this into use, my purse is still neat and organized.  I can reach in and instantly find what I’m looking for.  I wear prescription glasses and have sunglasses for sunny days. To know exactly where my glasses are every time I reach in while driving, is really such a lovely thing.

I am in love with my Purse Perfector.  It’s a fantabulous product for organizing something that’s used by me constantly throughout the day.

A place for everything and everything in it’s place.  What I now need is a house perfector. How about it anyone?

I would like to thank Lynn for giving me a Purse Perfector to use and review.
